Where our numbers come from

Every number on this site shows its source and date. If we can’t source it, we don’t show it.

Schools

12,920 schools. The national list comes from the U.S. Department of Education’s Private School Universe Survey (2023–24), filtered to Christian and Catholic schools. The survey only includes schools that responded, so some schools are missing. Official state program lists fill the gap: in Texas we added schools from the official TEFA participating-schools list that the survey didn’t include.

Traditions are the school’s religious affiliation as reported to the survey. Schools added from a state list are assigned a tradition from their name, and the school can correct it when it claims the listing.

Funding participation

A school is marked as accepting a program only when it appears on the official participating list. Texas: Texas Comptroller, Public Information Act request 20260924QTW, as of October 5, 2026. We never assume participation; a school not on the list shows as “not confirmed,” not “not participating.”

Tuition

Texas tuition is the average annual tuition each school reported to TEFA, released by the Texas Comptroller under the same request (file dated September 9, 2026). It is an average across grades. Your child’s grade may cost more or less. We don’t estimate or invent tuition: when none is published, the page says so.

How cost after funding is calculated

Family pays = tuition − award, and never less than $0. Texas uses the 2026–27 TEFA award of $10,474 for a student at an approved private school (Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, December 22, 2025). Students with an IEP can receive more. Fees such as registration, books, lunch and transportation are not included. Funding depends on eligibility, approval and available funds.

We show the green “family pays” number only when both are true:

  • the school’s tuition has a source and a year, and
  • the school is confirmed on the official participating list.

Refresh schedule

  • Federal survey: next release expected spring 2027.
  • State participating lists: each enrollment cycle.
  • Award amounts: whenever the state publishes a change.

Report an error

Schools can correct their own listing by claiming it. Parents who spot a mistake can tell the school or contact us, and we’ll fix it against the source.
